The Beer Geek’s Guide to New Orleans
"Second Line’s been growing quietly since opening in 2015, adding more fermentation capacity and diversifying its styles. The imperial rye IPA called Allryte, Allryte, Allryte, released several times a year, is a critical success. The beer garden is a great place for locals to mix it up with beer, food trucks, and movies every Wednesday."
"A post shared by Second Line Brewing (@secondlinebrew) on May 2, 2018 at 2:25pm PDT. Located in the Mid-City neighborhood of New Orleans, Second Line Brewing is the go-to spot for great locally brewed New Orleans craft beer in a family and pet-friendly setting. 433 N Bernadotte Street | Website"
"Second Line Brewing Company is located in the mid-city neighborhood of New Orleans. Its name was derived from the unique tradition of New Orleans called Second Line Parade. The parade is an unbridled expression of fun and celebration for the New Orleans community."
"Courtyard’s doubled its interior space, gussied up the courtyard, and put a damn wine on tap, but don’t worry. It’s still the same laid back dog-friendly joint with plenty of hoppy (and non-hoppy) beers brewed in house as well as guest taps from other breweries. Scott Wood’s brewery has gotten slightly bigger and exponentially better over the past 4 years, and that trend will almost certainly continue."
"When most people think of New Orleans bars, they picture people slamming down sugary Hurricane drinks and mass-produced beers. While there’s certainly plenty of that going on, the city is also home to a burgeoning craft beer scene. One of the best bars in New Orleans to get your hop fix is Courtyard Brewery."
"What is a chain brewpub next to a casino doing on this list?. Brewer Nick Anzalone has been expanding the restaurant’s beer selection with his creative recipes including hazy New England IPAs, Brut IPAs, saisons, and a non GBB-standard Bohemian Keller Pils lager. Anzalone has upped the beer cred at GBB-NO and it’s a great place to stop by downtown."
"A post shared by Gordon Biersch New Orleans (@gb_nola) on Nov 26, 2017 at 2:36pm PST. Chain hangout for house-brewed, German-style beer & a pub menu served in a casual setting. Located right across from Harrah’s Casino and within walking distance of the French Quarter."
"Dan Gordon and Dean Biersch’s dream came true when Gordon Biersch Brewing Company opened its doors. The brewery opened in Palo Alto, California, in July 1988. The duo worked together to bridge fresh, handcrafted beer and world class cuisine."
"This nanobrewery has its brewhouse and fermentation tanks crammed in a space the size of a large bathroom but it’s pumping out beer after beer at stunning speed. From hop bombs to imperial saisons to porters to German styles, Robert Bostick and and his team at Brieux Carré have been keeping foot traffic in the Upper Quarter and Frenchmen Street happy. Get a beer to go and wander around, or find a place in the small bar or outside beer garden to enjoy."
"Roux Carre is a true community restaurant dedicating its entire restaurant to the preservation of Central City culture. Various food vendors within it help to represent the African American, Caribbean, and Latin American influences of the city. These community spots include Estralita’s Express, Johnny’s Jamaican Grill,The Pupusa Lady, Splendid Pig, and the Youth Empowerment Project‘s Trafigura Work and Learn Juice Box."
"With a laissez faire approach to brewing, Brieux Carre aims to “embody the New Orleans spirit” in all of their beers. This brewery was tucked in right off of the popular Frenchmen Street, giving imbibers perfect access to craft beer. The interior of Brieux Carre in New Orleans is narrow and tight, but keep heading down the hall to get to the back courtyard for more seating."
"This neighborhood craft micro-brewery and taproom in the Bywater produces high-quality, small-batch brews with a funky twist inherent to New Orleans. The rotating tap list changes constantly, and the brewery prides itself on not having a flagship beer. Instead, the 12 taps are a virtual laboratory of experimental brews that push the boundaries of typical beer styles."
"Parleaux Beer Lab is a microbrewery and a neighborhood taproom. They craft high-quality and locally-produced beers. Our flavorful beers are inspired by the funky spirit of creativity and craftsmanship of the New Orleans community."
"Raymond and Mandy Pumilia have been doing some heavy lifting bringing the first (but rumor has it, not the last!) brewery to New Orleans East. Royal Brewery stays open during the weekend and brings a lot to the table to entice you out that way. First of all, their live music offerings are the best any brewery in this city has."
"A post shared by Brieux Carré Brewing Company (@brieuxcarre) on Jul 30, 2017 at 12:13pm PDT. Craft brewing manufacturing facility with a taproom open on weekends. Games are set-up around the venue including an area for kids along with a stage for live music."

The Atelier Vie lineup also includes Louisiana Single Malt; Riz, a Louisiana rice whiskey; Calio Rum and Barrel Aged Calio Rum; Orphan Street Brandy and Orphan Street Brandy “El Jefe” Edition; Toulouse Green, a traditional-style absinthe distilled with Louisiana wormwood; and Toulouse Red, an American absinthe colored red with hibiscus. "Founded in 2011, Atelier Vie produces vodka, gin, whiskey and even absinthe, from its South Broad Street location in Mid-City New Orleans.Atelier Vie’s two varieties of absinthe include the traditional green absinthe and a red version colored and flavored with hibiscus flowers. Try: Louisiana Single Malt Whiskey, Calio Rum, Orphan Street Brandy, and Euphrosine Gin, which took the Gold Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition."
"Head brewer and co-owner Alex Peyroux’s comes from a long time Cajun-French family, and his fiancee and Miel co-owner Janice Montoya descends from Spanish colonies, so the name is both a nod to that cultural blending — as well as the fact that Alex’s beekeeping parents keep them loaded up with Louisiana honey. New Orleans’ 10th brewery will use honey as a fermentation sugar as well as the featured ingredient for several beers in the future."
"Port Orleans Brewing Co. focuses on having the highest standard of quality and creating the finest selection of craft beers with consistent taste. Flagship brews include the Riverfront Lager (a moderately sweet golden lager with a peach nose, a soft malty character and a crisp finish), the Kennerbrau Kolsch (a slightly fruity German-style ale with a light toasted wheat flavor) and the Bucktown Brown Ale (a smooth ale with hints of caramel, chocolate and coffee). The brewery offers seasonal and a rotating selection of beers on tap."

The bar also throws watch parties for events such as the Emmys, the Oscars, the Kentucky Derby and the Westminster Dog Show."
"The American Sports Saloon provides the perfect setting for any sports fan. Outdoor as well as indoor fans can grab their favorite cocktail as well as some delicious food while watching their favorite teams play on one of their multitude of televisions. "1200 Decatur St., (504) 300-1782; www.theamericansportssaloon.com. A Ragin’ Cajun burger is topped with lettuce, Tabasco onions and remoulade and served with fries. Reservations accepted for large parties."
"George Rodrigue, a native song of south Louisiana, was best known as the creator of the ‘Blue Dog’, perhaps the most recognizable symbol of Louisiana contemporary art. The dog, with its soulful yellow eyes, was first painted in 1984 for Bayou, a selection of Louisiana ghost stories released in conjunction with the 1984 World’s Fair, held in New Orleans. Rodrigue decided to paint a version of the Cajun loup garou, or werewolf, and in so doing created the ghostly visage of the Blue Dog."
"Born and raised in southwest Louisiana, “Cajun Country,” George Rodrigue preserved on his canvas what he feared was his dying heritage — including its land, people, traditions and mythology. It was a Cajun legend, the loup-garou, that spawned his most famous series, The Blue Dog."
"Over in the French Quarter, check out A Gallery For Fine Photography, which has earned 4.5 stars out of 15 reviews on Yelp. Treat yourself at the art gallery by heading over to 241 Chartres St. As to what the business is known for, "Founded at a time when photography was only beginning to secure a foothold both in museum collections and in the art market at large, A Gallery for Fine Photography is a living landmark in the history of photography," it states on Yelp in the section highlighting specialties."
"We’re all so pushed and pulled from every side each day to ‘do,’ we forget the power of simply ‘Be-ing’” Such is the philosophy behind Belladonna Day Spa, an Uptown urban oasis where the services are focused on “being” rather than “doing.” Take the “Be Youthful” replenishing facial, for example, or the “Be Detoxed” seaweed treatment—better than any hair of the dog after a night out on Bourbon Street. Visitors will gravitate toward the “Be Bamboozled” body ritual, which incorporates herbal aromatherapy products designed to stave off travel tension. The hour-long treatment starts with a body scrub and green tea-milk bath, and culminates in a full-body massage."
"This full-service spa is located in the colorful and funky neighborhood of Mid-City, just a couple of miles away from the French Quarter. Woodhouse signature service includes the Signature Minkyti facial which combines organic seaweed to deeply hydrate and nourish the face, and exfoliation to establish and maintain the skin’s pH balance.
